A new lattice Boltzmann approach to simulate the one-dimensional open channel flow is developed by solving the Saint-Venant equations. Contrary to the conventional computational fluid dynamic method, the lattice Boltzmann method is based on reallocating the computational particles on lattice spacing, by choosing corresponding equilibrium distribution function properly. The model is verified by two benchmark tests, a one-dimensional subcritical gradient flow and a dam-break wave flow. The results showed the accuracy of the proposed method and its good applicability in simulating open channel flow.
