Existing formulas for discharge over submerged thin plate weirs, have two major disadvantages: they underestimate the discharge at high submergence and do not allow for the effects of differing upstream and downstream bed levels. This paper reviews the existing formulas and presents a new empirically derived discharge equation which addresses these limitations.
