The effect of aeration is evaluated by air concentration traditionally. However, according to recent research, cavitation erosion may not occur even under low air concentration. The effect of bubble sizes and gas nucleus number on incipient cavitation was studied and summarized in this paper. A conclusion was drawn that effect of bubbles whose sizes are smaller than 10-3 meters on weakening shock waves of bubble collapse could not be ignored. Under the same conditions, cavitation would be promoted when gas nucleus number increased.
