An overview is given on the different requirements for the design of pumping stations for respectively clean water and waste water. For clean water the water should be transported as efficient as possible, while avoiding air entrainment. On the other hand, in the transport of wastewater the transport of (floating) solids towards the treatment plant is more important than efficiency. The ANSI/HI 9.8-2012 standard focusses mainly on the design of clean water pumping stations. The authors discuss in this paper which additional requirements should be taken into account in the design of wastewater pumping stations.
