President of IAHR and CH2M HILL Professor of Water Management, Cardiff University

Roger Falconer is President of IAHR and CH2M HILL Professor of Water Management and Director (to 2014) of the Hydro-environmental Research Centre, in the School of Engineering, at Cardiff University. He was previously Professor of Water Engineering and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bradford. He manages a range of research contracts on hydro-environmental modelling and his models have been used in over 100 Environmental Impact Assessment studies worldwide. He has published over 350 papers in journals and conference proceedings and has given over 450 presentations on flooding, renewable energy and water security to a range of societies and universities world-wide.

Roger is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Learned Society of Wales and the Institution of Civil Engineers and has received many awards, including the IAHR Ippen Award (1991). He Chaired the Civil Engineering Sub-Panel in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and consults regularly on major UK and international projects. He was a member of the UK Government’s Expert Panel for the Severn Tidal Power Feasibility Studies.
